5 Responses to “do it your self roof cleaning can you use bleach?”
they sell a anti fungal solution at the hardware, around the house, i wouldn’t use Clorox, i did and even in a mild application it caused all kinds of problems. good luck
do you mean like cleaning mold, moss or moss like stain off of asphalt roofing material? if so then yes you can use a bleach and water solution for that. if the shingles are old then I would be very careful when “mopping” or spraying so as not to damage the shingles..try to do it on a cool day and be careful
)
wouldn’t want ya falling off of the roof.
10 parts water to 1 part bleach. over doing the bleas=ch does the opposite effect, the spres cose and do not die.
I would not use anything other than a mild detergent that you would use to wash a car or do your dishes with. I have been roofing for 20 yrs. and I have been out in more than one instance where someone turned a roof cleaning into the installation of a new roof because of what they used. BE CAREFUL! And if you ***** up call me, I’ll give you a bid on a new roof.
I recently cleaned a roof with Zinsser Jomax House Cleaner and Mildew Killer. You mix it with water and bleach and spray it from one of those pump type sprayers. Then I used a broom to gently brush it into the shingles. I found that if you spray it on the roof then lightly sprinkle it with fresh water, it brushes much easier. Then let it sit for 30 min or so and rinse off. It actually looks better the next day.
